
Common Pet Emergencies
Many illnesses and injuries do not require immediate veterinary attention. Sometimes, though, pets need urgent care and cannot wait for an appointment. It’s not always easy to determine what qualifies as an emergency and what doesn’t. As your pet’s vet, we recommend calling us for guidance whenever your pet has a problem. A team member will help you better understand if your pet needs to be seen right away or if they can wait for an appointment.

- Ingestion of foreign objects
- Hard, distended abdomen
- Blood in stool, urine, or vomit
- Bleeding from mouth, nose, ears, eyes, or rectum
- Loss of consciousness or seizures
- Exposure to/ingestion of poisons/toxins
- Injuries sustained in auto accidents or fights with other animals
- Difficulty breathing/choking
- Crying out in pain
- Severe lacerations and wounds
- Problems during labor or delivery
- Straining to pass urine or stool
- Repeated vomiting/diarrhea
- Refusal to eat/drink for 24+ hours
